Campus community members are invited to attend a dedication event at a special Indigenous gathering space unveiled as part of the university’s newly opened Albert Street student residence.

Located in the residence’s outdoor courtyard, the Indigenous gathering space is a circular area designed by local Indigenous artist, David R. Maracle, who created the space with the intention for people to gather with a good mind and an open heart. Design elements incorporate the teachings of the Tékeni Teyohá:te Káhswentha (Two Row Wampum Belt), The Turtle—symbolizing Mother Earth, and other important Haudenosaunee ways of life.

Starting at 2:30 pm on October 21, the event is open to all Queen’s students, faculty, and staff. It will feature an Indigenous welcome, remarks by Kanonhsyonne (Janice Hill), Associate Vice-Principal (Indigenous Initiatives and Reconciliation) and university Elders, as well as a musical performance by David R. Maracle. Following the outdoor portion of the event, attendees will move inside for food and socializing.
