Queen’s University is engaged in negotiating with three of its Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Locals in efforts to reach agreements to renew the collective agreements between the university and CUPE Local 229 (Tradespeople / Maintenance Workers and Caretakers / Custodians), Local 1302 (Library Technicians), and Local 254 (Lab Technicians). The three Locals collectively represent approximately 425 employees.
Negotiations are ongoing, and the university remains cautiously optimistic that if both sides commit to working hard through the week and weekend, deals can be found that are fair to everyone and can be ratified by the parties involved.
Should the parties be unable to reach agreements, the university respects the unions’ right to strike and the right of employees in CUPE Locals 229, 1302 and 254 to participate in the strike.
The university is sharing contingency plan information with the campus community as appropriate and has updated its Labour News Frequently Asked Questions.
This information as well as additional updates can be found on the university’s Labour News website. Labour News provides the Queen’s community with timely updates on the status of ongoing collective bargaining and related information.
